Sorry! No Shad Roe till next season perhaps April or May 2010 depending on how the run goes.

Everyone has been asking Where is the Shad Roe? and with good reason. Its delicate flavor and ephemeral tastiness is highly prized and judging by the calls and emails we've been getting folk out there are desperate! Shad Roe Sac The Skinny: In order to process roe, the shad run must be nearly perfect. The female shad produces millions of eggs within a double roe sac that slowly degrades as the shad moves up river to spawn. Roe must be harvested from fish that are very early in this cycle before the sac breaks down and the Shad gets ready to release them. Last year was a very bad year for roe as the Shad ran late and the eggs were too mature to process. We have high hopes for this year and we'll do our best to lay our hands on a large quantity, but it all depends on conditions out of our control. DEVELOPING: June 16 2010 - we're working a deal with some Native American Tribes on the Columbia to buy their shad harvest. We might have a good amount of canned shad roe here in a few weeks. Stay tuned!!
